Wonder and beauty in art – BeBeez

World Sun Day, celebrated by 5 year old children.
Tribute to Van Gogh

“If we did all the things we are truly capable of, we would absolutely marvel”

(Thomas Edison)

The different and numerous experiences in which I have been able to participate and activate, as a trainer at the School, in 40 years of activity, have increasingly fueled passion and commitment without ever exhausting their interest, therefore for art, design, the aspiration to beauty.

Proposing and experimenting artistic paths in kindergarten requires, in addition to availability, also the ability to constantly intertwine all the problems and little things of daily life, with equal freedom, competence and curiosity to offer children and

build knowledge opportunities with them.

One can think that creativity could be the strong point of an education capable of drawing as much on the cultural and artistic heritage as on the intuitions linked to the choice of values.

Think of an education that does not underestimate the child, but interested and able to listen to him, to feel his beneficial influence which is offered under the sign of wonder and to put oneself at his school, of a life which is beginning, of a life which is opening up, this can be an extraordinary opportunity for an adult, who, through the child, rediscovers and relives childhood in its potential, in its limits, but also in the beauty of a vital impulse, able to recognize that this beauty belongs to him in the depths of his memory…

What counts is the maturity of the adults with whom the children walk, adults who are also capable of keeping the naivety of wonder within them in order to be able to read with greater dedication everything that has to do with childhood, adults who exert no pressure to accelerate, for rapid growth outside of necessary times, but interested in the dynamism inherent in

child, by constructing images.

To create culture, it takes time, so you have to slow down, allow time to metabolize the learning phases, but not only, you have to show patience, listening, and by activating interest and participation of artists and paintings of paintings, which are chosen with the attention paid to children.

The artist introduces himself, chooses a work to offer, observes the images, recognizes the signs, the lines, all the colors, their superposition, and during this course of attention, we realize to what extent the whole body of the child participates in the action by specifying with gestures, movements left by the brush, highlighted in the image.

Artistic education understood as aesthetic, artistic research, which by becoming a project that is not punctual, but a pedagogical continuity, represents in the role of the always attentive teacher the ability to understand how the whole experience of child – spontaneous, guided, random – connect and place themselves in a process, where the child himself can be more aware of his own discoveries and capacities.

At the Canossian Institute, Kindergarten in via della Chiusa 9 in Milan, the “doodling” of children in the Spring section, 2-3 years old, brings us back to the compositions of

A dynamic and intense gesture that pushes to condense the composition and leads us to abstract paintings.

Aida Tomescu and how, simple lines and signs made with a brush, 4 years old, send us back to Giorgio Griffa.

With the older ones, 5 years old, we identify with simulating a trip to New York, pretending to observe the clouds high in the sky from the plane, being inspired by G. O’Keeffe and “arriving at Moma to admire a Mondrian and play it.

What about the colors chosen by van Gogh and the movement of his features in the “Wheat field with the flights of crows” and much more.

Let’s not forget Kandinsky with his shapes and A.Tapies and Burri with colors reminiscent of the earth, one of Staël who offers the opportunity and the playful taste of color and brush, and then Scully, Mirò and contemporary artists that fascinate us.

MunarI and his thought for the School; and laboratories, of paper, of color, of shapes, with multiple possibilities of techniques for manipulating different materials, suitable for different age cycles.

Children, from the smallest to the oldest, experience brushes, rags, balls, soil, twigs, unusual materials and tools and what to say, if to create “Apples on a green table in background” by Matisse, you use the wastepaper basket and bottle bottoms.

Search, try, wait, wait for the background to dry to superimpose another color; do it again, get involved, be AMAZED that you can proudly represent and showcase your work.

Let’s not call them masterpieces, but an expression of “poetic chords”

It is possible to DO, without renouncing to BE with the children, by participating in their discoveries, by respecting the times of their conquests.
